Mills Tower
Built in the early 1900's and last used in 1992, Mills Tower is the last standing interlocking railroad tower in Iowa. It stands at the crossing of the Canadian National and Union Pacific Railroad. At the time it was built the main lines were the Illinois Central, Chicago Northwestern, and the Rock Island. It was also used for other lines that passed through Iowa Falls. Controllers in the tower would use levers and control boards to flash red, green and yellow lights to direct trains. The ten-year restoration project is handicapped accessible. A 360-degree camera will broadcast to a wide screen on the first floor to accommodate those who cannot take the stairs to the second story. The tower is on the National Register of Historic Places.
